Job Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be the technical authority on our AI transformation engagements. You’ll work inside our clients’ environments and be paired with an AI Transformation Lead: they own the business outcome and the definition of done, you own the technical system and the path to production.
You’ll turn agent charters into secure, reliable production systems: architecting and building the agents, retrieval systems, and integrations, and releasing into the client’s environment with the monitoring, guardrails, and rollback paths to keep them live.
You’ll be measured on systems that are live, reliable, and governable at the quality thresholds each agent charter defines. Not demos. Not sandboxes.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Authority
- Own the technical architecture of each engagement: models, orchestration, data flows, integrations, environments, and security boundaries
- Lead model selection and routing decisions across providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source), balancing quality, cost, and latency for each system
- Make and explain the trade-offs on architecture, performance, reliability, cost, and security, and hold the line on production readiness
- Review every agent charter before build, working with your AI Transformation Lead to keep scope technically sound
- Set technical direction for supporting AI Engineers and review critical engineering work
Production Engineering & Deployment
- Build the production system: agent logic, prompts, retrieval, pipelines, APIs, integrations, and operational tooling
- Design and implement context pipelines (RAG, retrieval strategies, embeddings, and MCP-based tool integration) that ground agents in real data and keep them accurate over time
- Demonstrate working software at every milestone
- Own production deployment into the client’s environment: access controls, monitoring, observability, incident handling, and rollback paths
- Build the evals, guardrails, and instrumentation that prove each system meets its charter’s business and safety thresholds, before go-live and in operation
- Operate what you ship: keep systems live, reliable, and governable at the quality thresholds each agent charter defines
AI-Native Practice & Reusable Patterns
- Use AI tools and agents across the full delivery lifecycle: architecture, code generation, testing, debugging, and documentation
- Feed proven components, evals, and scaffolds back into Metacto’s reusable delivery platform
- Share effective AI-native practices and patterns with engineers across the organization
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years designing and operating agentic systems in production
- Production experience with agentic systems, including multi-step workflows, tool calling, planning, and error recovery
- Strong context engineering skills: RAG pipeline design, retrieval optimization, prompt engineering, and grounding AI outputs in structured knowledge
- Experience working across multiple LLM providers with informed trade-offs on model selection and routing
- Experience deploying inside enterprise or client environments: security reviews, access controls, compliance constraints, and someone else’s infrastructure
- Proficiency in Python for AI/ML work and TypeScript or Node.js for backend services and API development
- Experience building evaluation frameworks and monitoring infrastructure for AI systems in production
- Daily proficiency with AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot)
- Comfort operating as the client-facing technical authority: explaining trade-offs to executives, security leaders, and client engineers, and holding the line on production readiness
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MCP-based tool integration and agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, or similar)
- Background in fine-tuning or adapting models for domain-specific tasks
- MLOps experience: model versioning, deployment pipelines, A/B testing, and monitoring at scale
- Familiarity with transforming unstructured data into AI-ready assets (embeddings, structured schemas, RAG indices)
- Previous consulting or agency experience across diverse client industries
Position Details
- Type: Full-Time
- Location: 100% Remote (US time zones preferred for client collaboration)
- Base Salary Range (US): $140,000 - $180,000
- Nearshore: $6,000 - $8,000 USD / month
