Job Overview
We’re seeking an Associate Director of Engineering who can blend hands-on technical leadership with exceptional people and client management skills. You will oversee multiple engineering pods, making sure features are delivered on time and at quality, while coaching engineers and acting as a trusted partner to product.
You’ll also champion AI-assisted development practices, leveraging advanced AI tools and fostering an AI-first culture within your teams. This is an opportunity to shape how our teams work and the results we deliver—while being at the forefront of the AI development revolution.
Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
- Lead multiple engineering pods: Provide day-to-day leadership, ensuring team wellbeing, happiness, and motivation
- Coach and develop talent: Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, offer clear feedback and career development plans, and mentor engineers to build technical and leadership skills
- Hire and onboard: Recruit diverse, globally distributed talent, run interviews, and ensure new team members are properly onboarded
Delivery & Project Management
- Ensure on-time, high-quality delivery: Oversee multiple projects, plan sprints, and manage dependencies to deliver features efficiently
- Act as technical coach: Step in as a hands-on technical lead when needed, unblock teams, and ensure architectural consistency
- Implement agile best practices: Run agile ceremonies, stand-ups, and retrospectives, and promote continuous improvement across teams
- Monitor project health: Track delivery KPIs, identify risks, and propose improvements
- Strategic planning: Design and refine team processes and frameworks with an AI-first mindset to maximize impact
Innovation & Technical Excellence
- Champion AI-driven development: Leverage AI tools for code generation, testing, and automation to accelerate delivery and help establish an AI-first culture within client organizations
- Define and evolve processes: Build and document efficient AI-first workflows, coding standards, and quality-assurance practices
- Lead continuous improvement: Generate and implement process improvements, draft quarterly OKRs and KPIs, and champion modern DevOps and SDLC practices
Stakeholder Management
- Engage directly with stakeholders and product teams to understand requirements, provide updates, ensure alignment, and contribute to roadmap definition
- Support estimates and technical planning for new opportunities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers and designers, ensuring your team’s work aligns with company strategy
- Manage up and across, communicating project goals and outcomes to executives
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing engineering teams
- Demonstrated success in integrating and advocating for AI solutions within team processes and workflows
- Proven track record of delivering complex projects using agile, DevOps, and modern SDLC practices
- Demonstrated experience coaching and developing engineers, conducting performance reviews, and running 1:1s
- Experience collaborating directly with clients or stakeholders, including running pre-sales assessments and delivering project updates
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make quick, informed decisions to drive impact
- Strong technical foundation with the ability to make and guide architectural decisions and to incorporate AI tools into engineering workflows
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred
- Experience overseeing multiple teams or a portfolio of projects
- Familiarity with diverse technology stacks and cloud platforms
- Comfortable building processes from scratch and operating autonomously
- Background in consulting, agency work, or multi-client delivery environments
- Passion for data-driven continuous improvement and using AI-powered tools to enhance productivity

- Contract Rate: $180,000 - $220,000 / year (equivalent)
